Join us for a dinner party in celebration of PFLAG Greenville’s 30th Anniversary!
Help us honor co-founders Leslie Johnson and the late Carole Lender, as well as Larry and Margie Candler, PFLAG GVL founding members, as we reflect on the highlights of their support to our community for the last thirty years!
In 1992, a time much different than today, PFLAG Greenville began laying a foundation of advocacy and support of our LGBTQIA+ community in and around the Upstate of South Carolina. The group encouraged other parents of LGBTQIA+ children and taught how to love, care, and show compassion.
Leslie Johnson, who co-founded PFLAG Greenville, is a woman of intent. She believes we all have a right to be exactly how we are meant to be. She is kind, and she is love; also a woman of great timing and wit. Her characteristic embrace of our community has likely saved many lives, brought together many families, and shined a light of hope in rooms of desperate parents wondering what they did wrong. Her warm hugs are felt with purpose and necessary every time.
Larry and Margie Candler, parents of three gay children, didn’t see the announcement for the first PFLAG meeting, but they showed up to the second meeting and have continued to brace this organization, level with community members, and advocate kindness and acceptance, no matter what. Their story inspired their advocacy and continued voice for the past thirty years.
Please join us to celebrate the foundation they laid and the valued support they’ve given our LGBTQIA+ community!
We do hope you will join us! Please let us know if you have any questions or proceed to RSVP.
If you like, bring your special dish or holiday favorite to share and enjoy! Light sandwiches will be served + celebratory cake.
You may give a donation to PFLAG - Greenville's chapter to show your support.
Traditionally, PFLAG Greenville has hosted their annual holiday party in place of their December support group, but we understand the impact the holidays can have on families, so support is optional.
Choose "yes" if you need support when completing your RSVP or email us to request a December support group.
